I’m Kayla, your Destination Wedding, Honeymoon and All-Inclusive Resort Expert! I travel the World, seeing 30 - 50 resorts a year so I can highlight and review the most romantic destinations, resorts, excursions and more for my clients to experience.

Welcome!

If you’ve been googling the average Cancun destination wedding cost you’ve probably already realized that the numbers can really vary depending on what article you’re reading. A $10,000 wedding with 30-50 guests may be doable, but that same budget becomes a lot harder to stick to once your guest count climbs above 50. You also have to take into consideration seasonal pricing and how that will affect your budget.

So… how much does a destination wedding cost in Cancun? I can’t give you a specific number for planning your destination wedding in Mexico, but I can give you the averages and tips and tricks to stay within your budget. The average Cancun destination wedding cost is around $15,000 with a guest count of around 50 people. But please note that the actual cost of your destination wedding in Cancun will depend on how many guests attend, the resort you choose, the time of year you get married, and how much customization you want in your wedding.

This is exactly why working with a destination wedding travel agent can make such a difference. I know the resorts first-hand, I know how their wedding packages work, and I can help you figure out where it makes the most sense to save some money and where you can splurge a little.

What Does a Destination Wedding in Cancun Cost?

If you’re working with a budget of around $10,000 and you’re hosting 30-50 guests, your wedding may be doable depending on the time of year you choose and what your priorities are. Once you get above 50 guests though, that same budget can be a lot more difficult to work with.

When couples tell me their hosting around 50 guests, I generally advise them to to budget around $15,000 if not more, depending on what their vision is. A luxury wedding can easily reach $30,000 or more. Especially when you start adding decor, flowers, entertainment, photography, or any other personal details.

I highly recommend you don’t get too caught up in finding one single number online to stick to.Your Cancun destination wedding cost should be built around you, your guest count, and ultimately what you want for your wedding day.

The Biggest Impact To Your Cancun Destination Wedding Cost

Before you start researching wedding packages, figure out who will be attending realistically. While you may be inviting 100 people, it’s safe to assume not all 100 people will be able to make it.

Organize your guest list into 3 groups:

Your A-List: These are the people you’re confident will make the trip. This would be your parents, immediate family, wedding party, and some of your closest friends.

Your B-List: These guests would love to celebrate with you, but they will have to work with their job schedules, finances, childcare, and other determining factors.

Your C-List: These are people you feel obligated to invite, but you probably already know that there’s a small chance they will actually attend.

For budgeting purposes, I recommend being realistic with yourself about how many people will be able to travel for the wedding. The average destination wedding is around 50 guests, so that might be a good starting point, rather than assuming everyone on your list will be able to make it.

Choose Your Resort Based on Your Vision

This is something I would really encourage couples of when they ask me about the average cost of a destination wedding in Cancun. Resort wedding packages tend to be fairly similar to each other. So I recommend choosing your resort based on your wedding vision.

Ask yourself: Is this somewhere I want to vacation? Do I love their beach? Are the rooms what I want? Are there restaurants and amenities that everyone will enjoy? Does the resort fit our wedding vision? Will our guests have plenty of things to do when we’re not celebrating the wedding?

Narrow down to two or three resorts that you genuinely love, then compare their wedding packages.

Don’t be Afraid to Customize

One of the things I want you to know is that you aren’t necessarily limited to what you see in a resort’s wedding package. Almost any resort can help you bring your wedding vision to life.

You might find pictures of a wedding you love on Instagram with gorgeous flowers, beautiful furniture, and unique signs, and start telling yourself it needs to be that wedding venue. But the truth is, you can add those things to the wedding venue of your choice.

It’s not the decor that makes a wedding venue unique, but the venue itself. You can’t recreate their gazebos, terrace, beach location, or any other physical building that belongs to the resort. But you can recreate design elements that you’ve seen and loved from other weddings.

Flower and Decor Budget Tip For Your Destination Wedding

When you’re building your destination wedding Cancun cost, don’t underestimate utilizing what the resort already has. Flowers and decor can become some of the most expensive parts of your destination wedding planning. Particularly when you’re using elaborate installations or lots of different decor pieces.

One of my best tips for keeping costs within your budget is to work with what you already have. Cancun is already so beautiful between the palm trees, pristine beaches, crystal clear ocean, gazebos, and so much more. You don’t need to add additional decor to your wedding venue, unless you absolutely want to.

Average Cost of A Destination Wedding In Cancun Depends on the Season

Another thing you’ll need to consider is what time of year you’re getting married. Seasonal pricing can have a pretty big impact on your overall wedding budget. Which is just another reason why I don’t believe one blanket answer is best when you’re asking someone about the cost of a destination wedding in Cancun.

The ultimate cost of your destination wedding highly depends on the resort, time of year, number of guests, and the amount of extra decor you want to add. If you’re able to be flexible with the dates, talk to your trusted travel agent before you lock anything in. Sometimes moving your wedding date can give you more room in the budget without requiring you to cut out things that truly matter.

Utilize Your Destination Wedding Travel Agent

If you’re trying to be strict with your destination wedding budget, this is where having one of the best all-inclusive travel agents in your corner makes a huge difference.

I personally visit 30-50 resorts each year and have visited more than 100 resorts throughout my career, including properties in Mexico and the Caribbean. I’ve experienced these properties firsthand so I can help my couples understand the ins and outs of every property.

And because I work closely with all-inclusive wedding resorts and their wedding teams, I can help you set a realistic budget and stick to it. I’ll be able to help you decide what would be best to spend your money on and what we can get away with improvising on.

What is the Average Cost of a Destination Wedding in Cancun?

If you’re looking for just an average ball park number, I’d estimate around $15,000 for approximately 50 guests as the general average for a destination wedding in Cancun. A $10,000 budget may be doable for a smaller wedding of around 30 guests, while a larger or more luxurious wedding could easily reach $30,000 or more.

Please don’t let those numbers scare you or convince you that your wedding won’t look how you envisioned it. Your Cancun destination wedding cost should reflect what you love and want to prioritize. And with help from your destination wedding planner travel agent, we can set a realistic budget that will create the wedding of your dreams.
